Here’s my take on it. Everything on Carnival is a little less than most other cruise lines. Smaller rooms, less service, food isn’t as good. But on the other hand, it is cheaper and it is still an excellent getaway. I don’t think you will be dissapointed especially if it is your first time.
But don’t just take my word for it. There is an excellent website,. These are reviews written by fellow cruisers.
i took a Carnival cruise and was so pleased that I took a second one. loved it!!
there is plenty to do on the ship, and as far as the rooms, we got an outside cabin the first time and the second time had an inside cabin. we decided that the inside cabin is the way to go. it’s not worth the extra $$ for a window. you’re really only in your room to sleep and shower anyway.
the food is great, there is room service, buffet lines and the dining rooms. 24 hr pizzeria…
we took the Celebration and the Conquest, by the way…
my advice would be to do the pre-paid gratuities (1 less thing to worry about)
otherwise, the only money you will need is for liquor and spending money
enjoy your trip!!!
I’ve been on a few Carnival cruises. The main thing is that they’re focused on FUN — they do a great job with the nightlife, there’s always a lively social atmosphere, and the entertainment is really good (but if you don’t like R-rated humor skip the midnight comedy shows).
I like the food these days. A year or two ago it was a mixed bag, but they’re really improved. I think they’re on par with RCI, and in some areas I think they’re better (desserts, pizza, some of the fancier items like lobster and beef wellington).
BTW, not sure what the other guy’s experience was, for comparable cabin categories, Carnival’s cabins are actually significantly bigger than the other ships in this price category (RCI, NCL) — that’s because Carnival explicitly designs for families. They’re one of the few lines that regularly holds 4 or even 5 people in a cabin.
You can check out a cruise journal from a recent Carnival Pride cruise here:
And I’m not sure if this is your first cruise, but you might like the “know before you go” guide which covers stuff like what to pack, how to stay healthy on your vacation, etc:
Wow, I have found everything on carnival better than other cruise lines, particullary RCl. I found the service and entertainment far superior, the food had more “wow” moments. I guess the only downfall I had with Carnival was, when using the bathroom on RCL I could use the toilet, brush my teeth and shower at the same time. I have been on 6 Carnival ships and have never had a bad experience. Yes, everyone is different and any vacation is what you make of it, but I will stick with Carnival. Have fun whatever you choose.
I have cruised with Carnival and had a blast .. the food was great.. there is always something to do on the ship .. and of course it depends on what ship you are cruising on .. but they all have activities going on. I would cruise on Carnival anytime..
I’ve been on one cruise with Carnival and it was pretty fun. They give you a schedule of events each day and there are activities for every minute of the day if you choose to participate. The food was pretty tasty and if you don’t like it just tell the waiter and he’ll bring you another dish. THe self-serve icecream and juice were great at 3 in the morning also. Have fun!
You’re going to have a blast. A ship is like a floating Golden Corral. The rooms are fine. You’ll like the water slide. Be sure to take with an empty paper towel tube so you can take home the autographed place mat the dining room staff give you on the final night.
Bon Voyage!!!
Carnival Cruises is an excellent choice!!! Check the the Carnival website & find out what ship that you’re booked on. They all have a name. Each ship varies in size & the amenities it has on board, i.e., fitness centers, massages, hot tubs, swimming pools etc. They also list the types of restaurants they have. A lot of them have casinos & nightly entertainment. The food is excellent & most of the cruises have meals that are included for free but alcohol is not free. Check & see if you’re given a gift certificate or money coupon that you can spend on the ship. They sometimes are $100.00 & you can spend them on anything you want provided you buy on the ship.
The rooms vary in size from regular rooms all the way up to hotel suites. Some have ocean views while others have hallway views. Sometimes you can upgrade for free.
I own a travel agency & I’ve booked trips on Carnival & my clients loved the trips. Another thing to check is what ports you’ll be docked in. You might need to exchange your currency if you shop in town. Make your currency exchange at a bank-they give the best rates & don’t do it at an airport, they are the worst.
One final thing is to check on shore excursions while your docked. Some shore activities may be included in the price already. Also, sometimes you can book shore with Carnival or they will help you book these excursions. They should have a list of available excursions for you. Find a website that gives you photos of your cruise ship & you can see the rooms & other amenities for yourself.
I’ve been on four Carnival cruises and I’m going on my fifth this spring break. The rooms are tiny, as with any cruise, but you don’t stay in there much anyway. It depends on what ship you’re going on as to how big it is and what attractions are on it. Go to to find out about your ship. Carnival has 3 categories of largeness of their ships, the Conquest and its twin being the largest. And let me tell you, they are HUGE! The last day I still didn’t know everything about the ship! Even the little ones are super big, to me. Medium is perfect in my opinion. The food is awesome. I always try the crazy stuff I’ll never get to try anywhere else because it’s FREE! If you don’t like it, they’l BRING YOU SOMETHING ELSE!!! It’s the best thing in the world. I also like to dress up, so, yeah, dinner’s my favorite part of a cruise, ha.
Carnival Cruise lines have the best ships in the business. The size of the average room for the is 185 sq ft and that is still bigger than any other rooms on other ships. Just make sure you have money to cover the tips which are $10 per day per person. I would also advise you to take cash so you have an idea of what you are spending. I know u will have so much fun that you will be booking your next cruise as soon as u come back.
